In this position…

You will lead vehicle interior/occupant package target development (driver accommodation, roominess, exterior visibility, ease of ingress & egress, and luggage/cargo space), and overall vehicle mechanical package targets (including exterior dimensions, wheel and tire sizing and clearances, ground clearance, and underhood/powertrain clearances). Current model or advance program concepts.

What you'll do…

ADVANCE / PROGRAM ARCHITECTURE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead vehicle interior/occupant package target development (driver accommodation, roominess, exterior visibility, ease of ingress & egress, and luggage/cargo space), and overall vehicle mechanical package targets (including exterior dimensions, wheel and tire sizing and clearances, ground clearance, and underhood/powertrain clearances). Current model or advance program concepts.

  • Validate targets using competitive benchmarking, customer satisfaction, and quality data

  • Communicate occupant and mechanical package targets by developing and cascading 3D CAD zones

  • Create & maintain EBOM & VSS CAD as required for all Vehicle Architecture deliverables

  • Coordinate efforts between cross-functional activities (D&R, Vehicle Engineering, Design, VO, Service, Suppliers, etc.) to ensure architectural compatibility between occupant and mechanical targets and designs

  • Lead development of solutions and alternatives to meet occupant and mechanical package targets with consideration for cross-functional trade-offs (quality, function, weight, cost, assembly feasibility, etc.)

  • Lead resolution of target incompatibilities with Design and D&R engineers through PPAT, AAF, VADR, and VPAT meeting forums to ensure targets are met

  • Lead design verification testing (i.e. ground, powertrain, tire clearance testing and surface scanning) and documentation to support engineering sign-off of prototypes at key prototype gateways

  • Support development of globally consistent processes, standards, and methods with core occupant and mechanical Technical Experts

ALTERNATE SYNTHESIS ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead concurrent attribute trade-studies analysis to support programs Pre to Post (Mass, Fuel Economy, CO 2 Obligation, Range, Performance, Veh. Dyn., Cost, etc…)

  • Provide program analysis and recommendations to Point of View Owner, supporting architecture development and system selection (i.e. Overall Vehicle Dimensions, Powertrain Selection, Tire Line Up, etc…)

  • Perform design synthesis with the goal of defining system selection that enables customer and attribute targets

  • Leverage industry benchmarking, internal requirements and quality objectives to guide architecture development to deliver attribute performance

  • Develop and leverage modern data analysis and systems engineering tools to facilitate data driven decision making (Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture, Systems Design, MBSE)

  • Interface with VEM, CNE, Product Planning, Marketing, Studio, Attribute and Functional teams

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

You'll have...

Minimum

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, Human Factors); MS Preferred.

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in automotive mechanical or occupant package engineering

  • Proficiency in CATIA/VisMockup

  • In-depth knowledge of Body/Chassis/Powertrain/Electrical systems (geometry and function), attributes (NVH, Climate, Safety, etc.)

  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills, and an ability to manage multiple projects

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications

  • Familiarity with external tools (I.e. Tableau, VBA, modeFRONTIER, RSM Development) and internal tools (ECVSP, MoDrive, VDAT) not required but valuable
