Ghafari Senior Project Engineer – Process Chemical in Dearborn, Michigan

Job Description:

Ghafari Associates is looking for Senior Project Engineers to join the team. Experience related to battery materials manufacturing or battery assembly is a plus.

This role will support nationwide projects and report to a manager out of the Dearborn, MI office. Candidates can choose to be HYBRID, or 100% IN OFFICE in our Dearborn, MI office location.

General Summary:

Responsible for providing engineering design of continuous and discrete manufacturing processes. Prepare conceptual design layouts, mass and energy balances, PFD’s, P&ID’s, perform engineering calculations, develop equipment specifications, support detailed engineering of piping, ductwork, and utility systems, review RFI’s, submittals, and provide support throughout project construction.

Essential Functions:

  • Shall be familiar with common industrial systems such as: dust collection, gas and liquid storage and distribution, cooling towers, chillers, compressors, central vacuum, vapor and gas mitigation

  • Shall be familiar with bulk powder engineering, flammable liquid systems, gas treatment and recovery, slurries, specialty gases, refining, common unit operations, etc.

  • Design systems in accordance with applicable codes and safety standards such as ICC codes, NFPA, OSHA, API, ASME, etc.

  • Own development of PFDs and P&IDs. Develop and/or support development of controls Sequence of Operations and control loop diagrams.

  • Communicate directly with client regarding project scope, basis of design, deliverables, and design progress.

  • Develop and manage tool utility matrices and tool/equipment install drawings.

  • Develop specifications for process equipment, prepare technical evaluations of bids, and provide recommendations to the client. Support procurement activities as required by the project.

  • Communicate effectively to coordinate design with multi-disciplinary design teams (electrical, civil, etc.)

  • Lead development of design drawing packages including plans, elevations, isometrics, details, etc.

  • Perform engineering calculations including process equipment sizing, mass and energy balances, and hydraulic modeling.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited school is required.

  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience is required.

Skills/Competencies:

  • AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit competency preferred. Proficiency in any of these programs is a plus.

  • PIPE-FLO or similar hydraulic modeling software competency preferred. Proficiency is a plus.

Aspen software proficiency is a plus.

  • Experience performing pipe stress analysis, CFD, and/or plume modeling is a plus.

  • Experience with non-Newtonian fluids is a plus.

  • Proficient in MS Office. VBA competency or proficiency is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of process engineering and design.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
