Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Michigan State University College of Nursing is seeking applications for a full time temporary Nursing Professional Development Nurse Planner for fall 2024, starting August 2024. The NPD Nurse Planner will work with others in the NPD department to provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of continuing nursing professional development activities, in alignment with CON inclusive excellence practices and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) accreditation guidelines, with supervision by the NPD Coordinator.

Duties include:

  • Serve as a Nurse Planner (NP) as described by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for continuing nursing professional development

  • Identify and assess professional knowledge, inclusive awareness, skill and/or practice gaps that can be addressed through evidence-based educational activities following ANCC

  • Learn and follow required ANCC processes for identification, mitigation, and disclosure of relevant financial relationships for anyone with the ability to control content of learning

  • Ensure alignment of processes and activities with the Michigan State University College of Nursing’s overall strategic and inclusive excellence plan and accreditation standards, including dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Work in a flexible work setting that includes flexible hours and a hybrid remote work

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree

  • Unrestricted RN license (or eligible) in Michigan

  • Experience with educational design and delivery that may include professional development, organizational/ hospital educator, or academic nursing education roles such as clinical, laboratory, simulation and/or didactic areas

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel and ability to learn new processes as needed

  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented hybrid work environment

  • Must be willing to learn and follow the CON DEI mission and values and implement them in this role

Desired Qualifications

  • Direct experience in nursing professional development

  • NPD Specialist (graduate degree and current NPD certification)

  • Experience with accreditation standards and processes

  • MSN, Master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing or a related area
