We are seeking a Systems Engineer/Programmer Developer candidate to serve as a member of a KBR team working at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The Systems Engineer/Programmer Developer will be responsible for scientific data center application programming, testing, maintenance, and associated technical activities in support of management and processing systems. Supported software includes near real-time servers for automated data ingest, scheduling of science processing, data storage management, and data distribution written in object-oriented JAVA under J2SE. The software also includes GUI clients and command line tools. The Systems Engineer/Programmer Developer will perform other duties and assignments as required.

Specific work activities include the following:

  • Developing, integrating, testing, debugging, and documenting code for the Scheduling and Data Management System (SDMS)

  • Releasing and maintaining operational code

  • Evolutionary adaptation of designs and code to meet new requirements

  • Integration and Acceptance Testing of the Science Investigator-led Processing Systems (SIPS) Builds

  • Developing software documentation artifacts per NASA requirements

Position Requirements:

  • 3-5 years related experience in developing and testing operational systems applications in Java J2SE

  • 3-5 years related experience developing systems applications in a Linux/Unix operating system environment

  • At least 3 years systems engineering experience

  • At least 3 years systems programming/developing/testing experience

  • There will be a short online JAVA test conducted during the interview

Additional Desirable Experience/Skills:

  • Experience with Java Programming and socket programming in Java

  • Experience with GUI application development with Java Swing

  • Experience with multi-threaded programming

  • Experience with JDBC, database schema design and development

  • Experience with formal software process development environments including configuration management and change management

  • Experience using version control systems, such as GIT or Mercurial

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Critical thinking

  • Good judgment and relationship management

  • Ability to track detailed assignments and ensure timely delivery

  • Experience working with Integrated Development Environments such as NetBeans

  • Ability to work independently, quickly, efficiently and accurately in a dynamic and fluid environment

Education:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.
