Job Description

Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV, liver diseases and emerging viruses, cancer and fungal infection.

This role reports to the Director of UK Controllership and is responsible for supporting delivery of a wide range of Finance objectives including Reporting (Internal & Statutory), Tax, Audit (Internal and External), Process Governance (Procure to Pay; Order to Cash) and Process Improvement. Gilead is currently implementing a new ERP system, this role will play a part in ensuring optimisation of the system post go live in August 24.

This role has primary responsibility for Gilead Sciences Limited (“GSL”), Gilead’s UK distributor based in Holborn, but some responsibilities will extend across all 4 UK legal entities - covering UK & Ireland trading, international regulatory, ACE commercial (Region: Australia, Canada, Europe) and UK research.

Gilead is focused on operational excellence and operates in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a self-starter, adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing across a broad range of responsibilities and influencing stakeholders from a variety of functions and levels of seniority. The successful candidate will be adept at understanding the needs of multiple stakeholders and working collaboratively to drive results.

Essential Duties and Job Functions

  • Build strong network and relationships across all areas of Finance (in-country team; Controllership, Financial Services, Tax & Treasury) and across the business, to enable delivery of objectives.

  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to ensure compliance with worldwide policies and procedures and develop local policies where appropriate, including addressing both stakeholder and compliance needs and providing proactive communications.

  • Support the month end process, including journal preparation and review, ensuring accurate cut-off of sales and expenses, preparing and reviewing reconciliations and commentary on the P&L and BS reporting before it is presented to Regional Controllership on working day 2.

  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition policies are identified during pricing discussions and subsequently implemented with appropriate automation and controls.

  • Act as local finance lead in local or global cross-finance / cross-functional projects including playing a key role in project planning, developing communications and execution on deliverables.

  • Ensure internal and external reporting obligation are met on time, and internal and external audits concluded efficiently.

  • Support tax compliance, including Corporation Tax, Employment Taxes, VAT and broader tax governance, including SAO and CCO requirements and tax projects.

  • Support implementation of new ERP system post go-live, including training, communication and adaptation of processes and policies to maximise the benefits of SAP, as required.

  • Drive process improvement and standardization of reporting and analysis.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • ACA Qualified, or equivalent, with significant PQE

  • Excellent communication, networking and influencing skills – can effectively engage and influence a variety of stakeholders (including non-finance) at all levels; provide proactive, clear communications to achieve business objectives.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Detail oriented and operationally excellent.

  • Self-motivated, curious, eager to learn, able to work independently and drive results.

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge of UK GAAP (Reduced IFRS / FRS101), as well as all key aspects of controllership in a listed company.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, being flexible and adaptable, prioritizing effectively to meet deadlines in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Ability to apply accounting and tax knowledge to daily operations and projects.

  • Ability to understand processes, systems and controls and think through implications.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint).

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry

  • Experience leading cross-functional projects

  • Experience of UK taxation and compliance highly desired. But interest and enthusiasm for tax is a perfectly adequate substitute for experience in the subject.

  • Some knowledge of US GAAP is helpful, but we have a technical accounting team based in the US, so it is not essential by any means.

  • Systems - Good understanding of Oracle ERP, SAP or similar ERP systems.
