The Controller will be responsible for the overall fiscal and operational health of Pura Vida Miami. The successful candidate will be comfortable performing deep forensic audits into restaurant P&Ls and operational practices. The Controller, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, will be a valuable member of the management team driving key accounting improvements and engaging with business leaders throughout the company on day-to-day financial and operational initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In conjunction with senior leadership, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring and reporting standards on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.

  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and evaluating variance to applicable comparisons.

  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems to ensure compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain internal control safeguards for costs and revenue

  • Partner with Procurement team and restaurant site General Managers to assist in reconciliation of invoices and purchase orders.

  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing and future legislation.

  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow

  • Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls, guidelines, and policies.

  • Perform technical research to ensure compliance with applicable accounting guidance.

  • Help guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape.

  • Assist Executive Committee with appropriate Financial Planning and Analysis support covering a wide range of topics ranging from accretion / (dilution) analysis to preparation of investor and board materials.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field.

  • 7+ years proven accounting experience.

  • 3+ years of recent restaurant / Food & Beverage / Hospitality experience required.

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP accounting and reporting policies; some familiarity with IFRS standards.

  • Experience with public company filing documentations and requirements.

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

  • Experience with R365 or other cloud based accounting systems.

  • Strong familiarity with restaurant POS and procurement software packages.

  • Management of external audit by large global or national CPA firm.

  • Working knowledge of employment law and regulatory standards.

  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes.

  • Strong, hands-on experience closing the books while being able to prepare a consolidation of financial statements and monthly reporting package covering P&L, cash flow summary, AP, AR and cash management.

  • Strong background in handling accounting for Inventory, Inventory Reserves, Fixed Assets, CAPEX and OPEX.

  • Expertise with Cost of Goods Sold calculations and understanding of cost accounting processes, accounting impact, and theory.

  • Be adaptive and able to navigate through GAAP Accounting and Non-GAAP financials and metrics.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite package; knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics and macro execution within Microsoft Excel would be a plus.
