The department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Arts Therapist to work on the UHealth campus. The Arts Therapist functions as an integral part of the treatment team, and facilitates groups and individual expressive art projects with patients. Key responsibilities include planning, designing, and implementation of therapeutic creative and expressive activities and programs for patients; provides support services for patients and their families of various ages by using creative mediums to assist them in increasing their physical, cognitive and emotional health. This role also oversees group safety and plans activities that meet the patient's and clinical group needs.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Applies a variety of mediums including, but not limited to drawing, acrylic painting, watercolor, collage, sculpture, photography, jewelry making, all aiming to foster wellbeing, practice hands on mindfulness skills, and implement creative expression.

  • Assesses patient needs or disorders, using drawing, painting, sculpting, or other artistic processes.

  • Analyzes data to determine the effectiveness of treatments or therapy approaches; synthesizes data to draw conclusions or make recommendations for art therapy.

  • Communicates patient assessment findings and recommendations in oral, written, audio, video, or other forms.

  • Confers with other health care professionals on patient's treatment team to develop, coordinate, or integrate treatment plans. Interprets the artistic creations of clients to assess their functioning, needs, or progress. Talks with patients during art or other therapy sessions to build rapport, acknowledge their progress, or reflect upon their reactions to the artistic process.

  • Gathers patient information from sources such as case documentation, patient observation, or interviews of patient or family members.

  • Reviews research or literature In art therapy, psychology or related disciplines. Stays abreast of best practices within art therapy.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required; Master's degree highly preferred

  • Basic Life Support Certification (CPR)

  • CTRS Certificate

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
