The Department of Public Health Sciences is currently seeking a full time Sr. Instructional Designer. The Senior Instructional Designer plans and implements engaging learning activities and compelling course content to meet the learning needs of a target audience.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Works with subject matter experts, conducts needs assessments and analysis to identify new development needs for a target audience.

Designs and creates engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.

Identifies the methodologies used to deliver curated content.

Researches and evaluates new and emerging technologies for potential use in instructional opportunities.

States instructional end goals and creates content that matches them.

Visualizes instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product.

Determines the context of aesthetics (size, font, design, and experience), placement, frequency of use of tools, content format, and more, to ensure learners are not overwhelmed by the experience.

Conducts instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.

Applies tested instructional design theories, practice and methods.

Provides exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.

Creates supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, games etc.)

Determines the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments.

Evaluates instructional effectiveness.

Maintains project documentation and course folders.

Provides guidance and direction to lower level instructional designers, as needed.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of experience in instructional design, educational technology, or related fields; experience designing and developing online courses in higher education; ability to collaborate with faculty members utilizing online learning pedagogy and educational technology to achieve accreditation standards; proficiency in designing and developing written and video-based course content, creating innovative online activities and assessments, implementing course delivery, and evaluating curriculum; experience with learning management systems and customization of course pages using HTML and CSS; experience creating graphics and multimedia content using Microsoft and Adobe software applications; exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; innovative and willing to take initiative; organized with attention to detail.

Experience:

Master’s degree preferred in instructional design, education technology, distance learning, or related field; Proficient in Canvas and Blackboard learning management systems; Proficient in Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, JavaScript, Photoshop, and Keynote

Department Specific Functions

The Department of Public Health and Sciences at eh University of Miami is looking for an Instructional Designer to work with faculty and staff to develop high quality online and hybrid courses for the department’s education programs. The Instructional Designer will incorporate technical and pedagogical requirements and guide instructors through the design process using best practices by matching the instructor's subject matter expertise with the most appropriate online/hybrid delivery methods and technologies. The Instructional Designer will make key recommendations that will ensure all course objectives are met, provide training and development to instructors for live online class meetings, and assist the instructor in developing and implementing course assessments.

Provides instructional design support for faculty and program staff in developing interactive online and hybrid courses and programs, including creation and revision of course materials.

Trains and supports faculty in the use of existing technology to successfully conduct online courses and creates implementation plans for new technology, Demonstrates ability to understand and interpret educational needs and develop effective instructional media solutions, working on projects from concept through completion, Assists faculty and program staff in planning and adapting optimal online design of curriculum and instruction with effective and strategic use of multimedia, HTML and CSS. Coordinates with video production team to produce high-value video presentations. Assesses and evaluates online curriculum and activities with learning assessments to demonstrate an online course’s success in achieving learning outcomes.

Analyzes learning management system data with faculty to address pedagogical issues as needed. Maintains thorough knowledge of instructional design methodologies including performance-based outcomes assessments. Recommends educational technology to faculty that enables students to meet course learning objective goals and increases student engagement in online courses. Maintains professional expertise and continuously expands knowledge in teaching and learning, electronic pedagogy, instructional design, and most recent technology-based course delivery systems, including: learning management systems, multimedia and instructional course software, adaptive learning tools, multimedia presentation, and web conferencing technologies. Attends professional workshops and meetings, sharing knowledge and networking with other online instructional design professionals to identify, contribute, and recommend new ideas or methods for enhancing curriculum.
