The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York

The Center for Statistical Genetics in the Neurology Department is searching for a qualified postdoctoral bioinformatician to aid in a research project focused on the genetic background of various Mendelian disorders, including hearing loss and neurodevelopmental disorders. The goal of this research is to expand our knowledge on the genetic etiology of these disorders and improve diagnostic testing. The candidate will aid in the analysis of a variety of genetic techniques. We are looking for a talented, passionate, and highly motivated individual to take part in our research mission and to lead the computational efforts in our group.

Responsibilities

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Create and maintain bioinformatic pipelines on a high-computing cluster
  • Lead the analysis of novel techniques and novel "omic" data types
  • Participate in data interpretation such as data quality control, variant interpretation and classification
  • Utilize good coding practices including versioning (eg. Github) and writing detailed documentation
  • Participate in manuscript writing and the presentation of results in scientific meetings
  • Work independently and in a team of scientists

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in analyzing next generation sequencing data
  • Comfortable with job submission on a high-computing cluster
  • Effective communication, organization and documentation skills
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills
