McLaren Health Care Trauma Registrar - McLaren Careers in Pontiac, Michigan

Position Summary: Responsible for data collection, both abstracting and analyzing, data entry, and data completion of the trauma patient population. Responsible for ensuring the trauma registry is concurrent, by having a minimum of 80%25%20of patient records completed within 60 days of discharge. Responsible for data submission/distribution/report generation to/for the appropriate parties within the designated time frame along with ongoing data validation before the data is accepted to ensure the integrity and quality of registry data used for prevention, PIPS, and other essential aspects of the trauma program. Prepares documents and reports and provides research assistance, in support of the Trauma Committee.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities as Assigned:

  1. Extrapolates, correlates, and interprets all aspects of trauma patient care from medical records and trauma registry; use charts, medical records, and other department’s databases to identify procedural or treatment complications; may determine appropriate ICD 10 codes for injuries and procedures.

  2. Provides statistical reports and materials based on trauma data collected; uses appropriate software program to generate reports for research and quality improvement of the Trauma Center.

  3. Attends Trauma Committee meetings; prepares charts, graphs, and other materials for meetings; prepares committee-meeting minutes.

  4. Inputs trauma data into the appropriate software.

  5. Conducts mandated audits of files based on governing body such as but not limited to-Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO) and American College of Surgeons (ACS).

  6. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviews professional publications; establishes personal networks; participates in professional societies.

  7. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current certification as a certified trauma registrar or within one (1) year of employment.

  • Trauma Registrar must have at least 24 hours of trauma related CE every three years.

  • AAAM AIS course certificate upon hire or within one (1) year of employment.

  • ICD-10 course certificate dated within the past five (5) years or within one (1) year of employment.

  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) within one (1) year of employment.

Preferred:

  • Trauma database experience (NTRAC, Trauma Base etc.) that includes report writing.

  • Educational courses in anatomy and physiology.

  • CSTR (Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry) within one (1) year of employment.

  • Two years of experience as a trauma registrar.
