Summary

The Category Manager is an integral part of enhancing the organization’s role as a category first objective thought leader and requires close collaboration with both internal & external partners. The category manager will research and translate consumer behavior and retail data trends into proactive, value-creating business solutions for the retailer and Perdue. This role directly supports a specific team organized by Channel/Region and collaborates with Sales Planning to deliver category platforms consistent with AOP/Annual Business Planning timelines.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Partner with Category Management Director to guide the development of the organization's category management priorities, strategy and approach.

  • Accountable for the implementation, communication and execution of Category Selling Platforms and Assets.

  • Increase Influence with Customers – Deliver best-in-class, category-first, differentiated insights that influence customer’s strategic direction and tactical execution.

  • Lead the creation and articulation of fact-based category insights and actionable recommendations that grow protein categories and create long term value for the retailer and Perdue.

  • Develop customer-facing category presentations complete with actionable recommendations leveraging multiple data sources including market and industry trends, competitive reviews, promotion & pricing analysis.

  • Consistently provide quality category support including category assortment, merchandising, shelving, pricing, and promotional performance recommendations.

  • Lead shelving analysis and development, competitive market analysis, ad hoc and ongoing data reporting and the creation of analytical tools.

  • Collaborate with Sales and cross-functional teams for category reviews, JBP & T2Ts and innovation presentations.

  • Work closely with sales and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment on category and customer plans.

Education or Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Business Management, Marketing, or related field, plus 5 – 10 years of industry or relevant category management experience. Our ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Progressive experience in sales, category management, trade marketing, analytics, consumer or shopper insights experience

  • Expertise in Retailer POS, Syndicated and Panel data, i.e., Circana and/or Nielsen.

  • Strong knowledge of Retailer Data Platforms (i.e., 84.51 Stratum, Circana Gateways…).

  • Proficiency in Power Point, Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent analytical, interpretive and problem-solving skills with strong data visualization and storytelling capabilities.

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence key. internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strategic, problem-solving mindset with ability to think holistically & creatively.
