Understanding the causes of and developing treatments for dominantly inherited muscular dystrophies

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position’s major duties and responsibilities:

40%

  • Part-time effort as a co-lab manager, with a focus on ordering supplies, overseeing work study students, and maintaining overall lab operations and supplies 30%

  • iPSC cell growth and differentiation studies; viral vector cloning, purification and testing;

  • DNA and vector transduction of cells and tissues

  • Injection and sacrifice of test animals

  • Collecting biological samples from test and control animals

  • Nucleic acid purification from cells and tissues

  • Analysis of gene expression in tissue culture cells and tissues

  • Protein purification and quantification. 10%

  • Advancing ideas for research directions

  • Performing experiments DNA cloning 5%

  • Collecting the data

  • Comparing control and test data with previous results and with published literature in the field

  • Analyzing, displaying and disseminating results 5%

  • Identifying appropriate software to analyze the data;

  • Determining statistical significance of experimental results 5%

  • Preparing reports on data collected

  • Presenting results at lab meetings and national meetings

  • Preparing figures summarizing the data 5%

  • Helping to write and submit manuscripts describing experiments performed and data obtained. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Scientific Discipline and Two years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Specific knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job satisfactorily include:

  • Working knowledge of muscular dystrophies, cloning techniques, vector use and production, cell culture methods, RNAi knowledge and experience, outstanding writing skills, able to prepare and give research presentations at meetings

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities that are desirable, providing for an enhanced level of job performance, include:

  • Microscopy skills for muscle; generation of AAV and lentiviral vectors
