Discover the world of rock blasting as a Blaster Apprentice with us! This position is responsible for assisting and learning all aspects of rock blasting. This includes the preparation, handling, loading and detonation of controlled explosives used to loosen earth and rock in construction, rock quarries, mines, development, and other specialty projects. Hours & Pay: - Typical hourly earnings: \$20-\$25/hr. - Per diem: \$40 per day when staying in a company paid hotel. - Generous benefits package including company transportation to jobs, paid travel time, per diem, insurance, 401k with matching, paid time off and more. Job Requirements: - Experience working in construction preferred. - Valid driver\'s license with a driving record that includes no more than 3 moving violations and/or chargeable accidents in the last 3 years and no DUIIs. - Travel away from home is a required part of this position. We provide transportation from our headquarters in Springfield. This position typically works away from home, travelling Sunday eve and returning home Friday eve. - We submit candidates to a background check through the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to screen felony records as appropriate in compliance with federal government restrictions. - We will administer a pre-employment drug test and physical. For safety reasons, we have a zero tolerance drug policy, including marijuana use. - Physical stamina; to lift 50 pounds and work on feet for long hours. - Resilient to overcome challenges, adapt to change and work successfully in a dynamic and evolving work environment. - To work well with both a team and independently. - Eagerness to learn and seek opportunities for ongoing training and development. Job Duties: - Assists Blaster in Charge in all day-of-blast activities, ensuring that the work is executed in accordance with the Blast Plan. - Prepare, handle, load, and detonate controlled explosives used to loosen earth and rock in construction, rock quarries, mines, development, and other specialty projects. - Assist with seismograph (vibration monitoring instrument) deployment and monitoring and works towards proficiency with use. - Operate support equipment (i.e., reach lifts and skid steers) for the loading of explosives agents into drill holes. - Assist with capturing drone footage of blasting operations. Safety: - Views safety as paramount and continually works with team members to maintain a safe operation. - Properly follows all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations to promote a safe working environment.
