Canadian Tire AI-Safety and Impact Manager in Toronto, Ontario

What you'll do

The AI-Safety and Impact Manager will lead our efforts to define and implement responsible and trustworthy AI practices across our organization. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of AI technology, ethics, and regulatory environments. It emphasizes integrating ethical considerations throughout AI systems' lifecycle and maintaining a comprehensive Enterprise Model Catalogue, alongside a robust Model Risk Governance framework. The successful candidate will work closely with AI development teams, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure our AI applications are safe, transparent, and beneficial to society.

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of AI governance policies and practices that reflect ethical principles, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and implement a governance framework that identifies, assesses, manages, and monitors risks associated with the development, deployment, and maintenance of AI models. This includes ensuring compliance with both internal policies and external regulations.

  • Establish and oversee a centralized catalogue that provides detailed information on all AI models in use, including their purpose, design, data sources, validation results, and performance metrics.

  • Stay abreast of developments in AI ethics, safety standards, and regulatory changes, and adjust governance policies accordingly.

  • Evaluate AI projects for potential societal, ethical, and technological impacts, ensuring risks are proactively identified and mitigated.

  • Conduct routine audits of AI models to detect and rectify biases, ensuring alignment with fairness standards.

  • Curate and deliver training sessions and materials to promote understanding and adherence to responsible AI principles among internal teams.

  • Advocate for AI model interpretability, ensuring decisions made by such models, especially in sensitive domains, are explainable to stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed responsible AI principles into daily processes, ensuring alignment between technical and ethical considerations.

  • Collaborate with AI development teams to incorporate safety and ethical considerations into the AI lifecycle, from design to deployment and monitoring.

  • Lead engagement with internal and external stakeholders on AI safety and impact issues, including transparency reports and public communications.

  • Set up channels for users and stakeholders to communicate concerns about AI outputs and lead the subsequent resolution processes.

  • Align responsible AI initiatives with the company's wider mission, ensuring that ethical AI practices bolster the organization's objectives and reputation.

What you bring

  • PhD or Masters degree in Computer Science, AI, Ethics, Law, or a related field.

  • Experience in AI ethics, policy, or governance roles, ideally within the tech or retail industry.

  • Strong understanding of AI technologies, their applications, and potential societal impacts.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical and ethical issues to a variety of audiences.

  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.
