What we want

As the Digital (UI/UX) Designer you will work alongside the Technology Services Product Management and Communications teams to create user-centered designs and front-end interfaces for our web and mobile applications. Your contributions will shape Technology Service's visual identity by designing creative content that engages and excites action among our stakeholders. Design responsibilities include creating graphics for websites, applications, posters, flyers, newsletter, social media, etc., as well as exploring opportunities with AI design tools.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience in graphic design

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of design principles, user experience, and front-end development technologies

  • Knowledge of user-centered design principles and practices

  • Knowledge of wireframe tools and ability to create wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, and sitemaps

  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Sketch, Figma, Adobe CS, and/or Adobe XD, with a focus on accessibility design considerations

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript for rapid prototyping.

  • Familiarity with project management practices and collaboration tools such as Trello, Asana, Microsoft Teams, Slack, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Digital Design and Execution - Works alongside Technology Services to create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and user interface designs that align with user needs, business objectives, best practices for UI/UX, and web accessibility standards. Understands audience(s) to capture their attention and effectively communicate messaging. Work closely with application developers to ensure designs are properly implemented and function as expected, with a focus on accessibility testing and troubleshooting. Develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and UI component libraries. Conduct user research and usability testing to continuously improve the user experience. Assists and executes the comprehensive design process, including defining requirements, visualizing, and creating graphics. Work closely with product managers, service owners, content creators, and developers to understand user needs and business requirements. Design digital graphics for use in social media, digital signage, websites, news stories, and videos. Presents designs and key deliverables to peers and other stakeholders. Amends designs after feedback.

  • Print Design and Execution - Designs flyers, physical signage, brochures, annual reports, etc. to support the strategic initiatives of Technology Services. Oversees the ordering and print process for all printed media. Ensures all print designs comply with accessibility standards and Texas A&M’s branding guidelines.

  • Management - When budgets allow, hires, supervises, and oversees a team of student workers to support design development and execution efforts of Graphic Designer II.

  • Representative - Amplifies the strategic initiatives of Technology Services across Texas A&M University. Engages in university-level collaboration with counterparts to ensure timely and effective project completion while seeking out opportunities when appropriate. Prepares regular status for leadership. Works with key internal and external stakeholders across the higher education community to optimize Technology Services’ visual identity at Texas A&M. Performs other duties as assigned.
