The Executive Director, Field Medical Team is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of the field medical team for Oncology and Cell Therapy. You will play a critical role in encouraging the success of the field medical team by developing and executing strategic plans, fostering collaboration across departments, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality scientific exchange between Kite and the Oncology / Cell Therapy community, to meet organizational goals.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Develop, establish and implement strategic plans to achieve organizational goals (qualitative & quantitative) and objectives; and routinely report and monitor progress
Provide direction and guidance to the field medical team, setting clear goals and expectations
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and excellence within the team
Timely, accurate and succinct communication of fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations to disease area healthcare professionals, both proactively and in response to requests for information, consistent with promotional compliance and FDA regulatory requirements
Contribution to the development of therapeutic area strategic documents, annual tactical plans, and phase IV research support plan and implementation
Effective integration of the MSL roles within each MSL’s assigned geography, including appropriate coordination with Clinical Research and Clinical Operations
Team Management
Recruit, develop, and manage a high-performing field medical team providing regular feedback and coaching
Provision of ongoing guidance for the career development of MSLs, including: the identification of specific development needs and guidance to appropriate training; identification and development of opportunities for MSLs to network and expand skills aligned with development plans; providing regular feedback regarding short and long-term career goals
Coordination of MSL participation in Gilead advisory boards and educational programs, such as speaker training and conference planning
Promote a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and professional growth
Excellent operational implementation, facilitating the development, deployment and appropriate use of field-based technologies to ensure timely and accurate reporting of in-bound data requirements
Ensure MSL compliance with applicable Pharma Code, OIG guidelines and Gilead policies
Stakeholder Management / Collaboration
Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including healthcare professionals, opinion leaders, and regulatory authorities
Collaborate with colleagues in multiple other functional areas, including Clinical Research, Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs Global Medical Director and team, Medical Affairs Operations, Commercial Strategy, Sales and Marketing
Represent the organization at medical conferences, advisory boards, and other relevant forums
Serve as a trusted medical expert and advisor to internal teams, providing guidance on medical affairs issues
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate and 12+ years of pharmaceutical or healthcare experience
OR
Master’s and 14+ years of pharmaceutical or healthcare experience
OR
Bachelor’s and 16+ years of pharmaceutical or healthcare experience
OR
High School Diploma/GED and 20+ years of pharmaceutical or healthcare experience
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced scientific degree (MD, DO, PhD or PharmD) with experience in the pharmaceutical or related healthcare field
10 years of relevant experience in a medically related endeavor (i.e., oncology medicine (hematologic or solid tumors, with deep knowledge of the clinical research process, treatment landscape and guidelines)
5 years previous leadership/supervisory and/or MSL field operations experience
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to evaluate competing priorities to arrive at appropriate decisions
Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve goals
Strategic mindset with the ability to think creatively and solve complex problems
Ability to develop and deliver high-quality presentations
Thorough understanding of applicable regulatory requirements for field-based personnel and PhRMA guidelines, including geographic regulatory related guidelines
Collaborative, team-based approach; ability to network and partner with internal and external stakeholders, including medical thought-leaders, academic institutions, large group practices, medical directors and pharmacy directors
Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and resources
Demonstrated experience of catalyzing results and delivering high-quality medical support
Meaningful business skills/acumen; ability to translate scientific expertise and knowledge to achieve the identified business goals of the company
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time

The salary range for this position is: $288,575.00 - $373,450.00. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
