Prysmian Group Senior Engineer - Specialty Product Development in Willimantic, Connecticut

Product Development Engineer responsible for managing New Product Development and Design to Cost projects from justification and proof of concept through to industrialization. This position works with cross-functional team to achieve project objectives and requires outstanding communication skills, ability to collaborate, and high level of creativity. In this role there is high level of accountably for meeting project targets and communicating status to key stakeholders and latitude for conducting day-to-day tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare product development designs for new / enhanced products.

  • Assess plant capabilities related to new product manufacturing.

  • Prepares recommended prototypes and test plans for internal labs and third-party approval agencies.

  • Participate in factory level experimental trials concerning new products and compound implementation.

  • Responsible for third party (UL, ETL, CSA, etc.) submittals listings and final approval adopting the widest range of approval that can be granted. Develop Design savings (DTC) plans with purchasing, implement and measure.

  • Support manufacturing in new product industrialization, as required.

  • Maintain progress and report on key product development activities.

  • Actively participate in appropriate technical committees and standards development (e.g., UL, CSA, IEEE, ICEA).

  • Coordinate with Material Labs to ensure all new materials are properly approved.

  • Coordinate information sharing between Cable Design, Manufacturing, Quality and other systems

Specific Skills/Training Required

  • Outstanding communication (verbal & written) with factory floor associates, peers and upper management

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Technical writing

  • Computer literate with strong knowledge of Microsoft tools (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word

  • Rubber & Plastics formulation development and compounding

  • Ability to contribute in a team environment

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision

Education/Experience Required

  • BS degree in Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related area.

  • 2-4 years' experience in wire and cable product development preferred

  • Knowledge of extrusion processing preferred
